QR Codes Saving Businesses During the Pandemic

Contactless technology is on the rise worldwide during the pandemic and experts say it will be part of the ‘new normal’ in retail.

In Serbia currently, as well as in many countries across the world, restaurants, and cafes are closed down. While walking around the streets you may have noticed that many gastronomy units have placed QR code signs in front of their units to allow passengers to download their digital menus and order beverages using their phone. This is helping businesses to still stay somehow open and serve their customers in a safe way

Safety, Convenience, and Speed

Contactless technology for menus, ordering, and payment are not only saving many businesses during lockdowns but they are also adding convenience and speed to dining out.

Considering that Apple has added now to iPhone QR scanning capabilities right into the camera, it seems that this type of technology will be part of our retail future.

QR codes are very user-friendly because they don’t require customers to download individual apps. All they need to do is scan the QR code on their phone and menus will pop up!

A US company Grubbrr that offers contactless ordering solutions for businesses stated that this type of digital service increases sales by around 12 to 22 percent.

QR Codes are Here to Stay

Contactless technology is definitely a game-changer in gastronomy and retail because it is reprogramming customer behavior and expectations. QR menus, digital ordering, and digital payment will eliminate the need for customers to wait for staff to take their orders or payments.

Some people have concern that the digitalization of services within gastronomy units will ruin the personal and social appeal of the places. But considering that we are still in a pandemic and safety, speed, and efficiency is prioritized, QR codes are definitely here to stay.

Once customers get used to it, it will be hard to go back to the way it used to be…because let’s be honest who likes to wait!
