Ada Mall in Belgrade has become the first shopping center ever to install beehives o its green roof in order to encourage local production of organic honey.
When the Ada Mall team was brainstorming ideas for promoting sustainability, they thought:
What if we did something different? What if we did something with a little more heart and soul?
The installation of beehives on its roof is yet another environmental initiative by Ada Mall which proudly identifies itself as a “Green Mall”. The mall offers lots of greenery on its terraces and hosts many events that entertain and educate the local population about sustainability. They have even dedicated a whole day during the week to the environment, calling it “Green Tuesday” when they offer discounts to visitors and host different environment and health-related events. More about Green Tuesday here.
People often ask us do we have enough greenery or pollen to produce honey, and we do. Bees are attracted to our flower gardens and trees on our large terraces and at the Ada Ciganlija nature resort next to us. They feed and return to the same place every day, to their hives on the roof of Ada Mall.
The hives are a distinctive way to demonstrate Ada Malls’ commitment to sustainability and creating healthier spaces for its community. Plus visitors will soon be able to try out Ada Malls’ own branded sweet honey.
It is a truly innovative and inspiring move by a shopping center that can encourage other malls worldwide to think Green.
