According to CNBC news, Nike is creating a virtual world called NikeLand on Roblox online gaming platform. The virtual world includes Nike buildings, fields, and arenas for players to compete in various virtual sports games.

People with accelerometers in their mobile devices will be able to use real-world movements to power their online play. For example, you can move your body in a jumping motion and it will translate in the virtual world to enhance the experience.

Users will also be able to enter a digital showroom to dress their avatar in everything Nike and check out the company’s latest product offerings.  Items could be modeled after real-life Nike products that can attract buyers.

“If they know a bunch of kids are wearing it on Nikeland, then they will then come out with it in the physical world,” said for CNBC news Sam Poser, analyst who covers Nike at Williams Trading.

Nike has quietly been preparing for the metaverse by recently filing a host of new trademarks indicating its intent to make and sell virtual Nike-branded sneakers and apparel.

“Digital is increasingly becoming a part of everyone’s shopping journey, and we are well positioned to reach our vision of a 40%-owned digital business by fiscal 2025,” Nike CFO Matt Friend.

It’s not Just Nike

H&M Animal Crossing: New Horizons

H&M launched this month its first virtual fashion collection and fashion show on the popular Nintendo game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It recreated in digital form eleven pieces from its real ‘Co-Exist Story’ fashion collection which were showcased in the game as a virtual fashion show. Gamers can now purchase the virtual clothing designs for their animal avatars at the virtual Able Sisters Shop.

H&M also created its own “Looop Island” in the game, characterized by a sustainable theme. The aim of Loop Island is to promote the brand’s collections and values around saving the environment.

“At H&M, we are always pioneering new ways to engage our customers and fans with our ambitious sustainability initiatives. Hosting our first fashion show in Animal Crossing to showcase our vegan ‘Co-Exist Story’ collection is the logical next step to our Looop Island concept, which was conceived to encourage our customers to reuse, remake and recycle unwanted garments,” stated Pascal Brun, Global Sustainability Manager at H&M.

What is metaverse?

The metaverse is an online virtual world that incorporates augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D holographic avatars, video, and other means of communication. You will be able to buy and sell virtual stuff, go to work, form communities, play games, etc.

Considering that Facebook company recently changed its name to META, get ready for a completely new reality and retail market.
