Intersport, an international multi-brand sports retailer, closed 2018 with 22 stores in Serbia and is planning to open an additional 15 stores by 2020.
Its last store opening took place on the 12th of December within BIG FASHION shopping center at no. 84 Višnjička Street in Belgrade.
Intersport Seeking New Locations in Serbia
The sports chain's expansion strategy for the Serbian market is to expand its retail network in Serbia to 27 stores by 2020.
As previously announced, Intersport aims to establish its presence in Serbian cities with more than 15,000 residents, including Vršac, Gornji Milanovac, Kraljevo, Šabac and Užice.
The retailer entered the local market in 2002 and today operates a total of 22 stores in all major cities across the country. Its units are situated on busy high streets as well as in prime shopping malls such as Rajićeva shopping center in Belgrade, Promenada Novi Sad, Kragujevac Plaza shopping center and NEST retail park in Kraljevo.
Intersport Presence in South East Europe
Within the South East Europe (SEE) region, Intersport is currently also present in Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Slovenia.
The company’s main competitors in the SEE region include international and domestic sports chains Decathlon, Sport Vision, Hervis Sports, Sportisimo, Tomas Sport and Đak Sport.

In September 2016, Slovenian retailer Mercator announced the sale of its Intersport Group and the Intersport license for the Western Balkan region to the Polish-based equity fund VII, managed by Enterprise Investors. That same year, the company recorded a turnover of over 107 million EUR in the SEE region.
