BILLA Bulgaria, supermarket chain owned by the German Rewe Group, opened on the 12th of April, its new supermarket in Bulgaria Mall, located on Boulevard Bulgaria no. 69. This is the company’s 47th store in Sofia and its 120th unit in Bulgaria.
Alongside Bulgaria Mall, BILLA currently operates supermarkets in four other major shopping centers: Serdika Center, Mall of Sofia, Park Center and Mega Mall.
The chain entered the Bulgarian market in 2000 and has since then established presence in all major cities across the country.
According to Boiko Sachanski, the Manager of BILLA for Bulgaria, the company plans to pursue further expansion, aiming to reach a total of 160 units.
Established in 1952, BILLA is currently present in Austria, Italy, Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Poland.
In April last year, SPAR Croatia, the subsidiary company of SPAR Osterreichische Warenhandels-AG, took over BILLA’s retail network in Croatia.
Within the South East Europe region, Rewe Group also used to operate a retail network of 86 BILLA supermarkets in Romania, which was acquired by the French retailer Carrefour.
